Mirage 96.1 (part 1)

Mirage 96.1 is a project I've been working on for a few years.
This comic-book anthology compiles short stories set in dystopian cyberpunk universe on the outskirts of the megalopolis known as Bethel.
Since I was young I've been facinated with dystopian settings. I grew up on Star Wars and Punk Rock. By the end of my teenage years I was introduced to the more mature and darker side of science fiction. With titles like Akira, Blade Runner, Ghost in the Shell, GUNNM, Knight Rider, Robocop, Terminator and Total Recall i fell in love with cyberpunk. Well... "love" falls a little bit short... I grew obsessed with it, to the point I was able to recite Blade Runner's dialogue by heart. This obsession led me to consume almost everything that was on offer from the genre, to the point where i needed to create my own stories. One story turned into two stories, then three and without even noticing it i had created a whole universe, filled with dozens of characters, stories and settings.

Line-art

As a comic book artist I take a lot of pride in my compositions and visual narratives. One of my favorite tools to accomplish this is managing the contrast of each panel with black and white. I believe that, even though color is really good at transmitting sensations there's a lot to learn from Japanese manga and the early 1940's american crime noir comic-books on how to generate those same feelings without the aide of coloring. That's why i make sure, or at least try, to make each panel work as intended on the inking stages. Here is all the line-art from this particular short story as an example.
